1Awfull!Mar 06, 2010
I have tried three different HTPC keyboards with my Mac Mini thus far. Two of them were Adesso keyboards and one is a Lenovo keyboard. This is BY FAR THE WORST KEYBOARD I HAVE EVER USED! If you want a keyboard you can't rely on and doesn't type what you press, then buy this right away!

I have three of these actually. One I bought for my mother, which she says works OK.

I really like the format of this keyboard and it's size. The trackball and mouse buttons are in a great place and make for easy navigation. The track wheel is also great to roll up and down pages. The keyboard is pretty small which I like too. The keypress isn't crisp, in fact it is kind of mushy and takes getting used to.

I have two of these set up in my house. The RF dongle is unreliable. I find myself hunting and pecking very slowly so that I can verify each key pressed is registered by the RF dongle. Imagine typing passwords to web sites over and over because the dongle isn't registering keystrokes. Or typing a long email and having to go through it to fix all the mispelt words or words that didn't even make it on the email.

I have resynced the keyboard and USB dongle many times. I am guessing that my wireless home network and Sonos setup are interfering with the 2.4 Ghz RF dongle, but I haven't found any correlation between the three - meaning when there is no wireless network traffic and the Sonos system is not playing, I still get crappy function from this keyboard. The interference is just a guess on my part. I would think an RF dongle would be able to handle interference from cordless phones, wireless networks, etc, especially in the 2.4 Ghz spectrum.

The other Adesso keyboard I have has a trackpad - which I don't like, but the RF signal reliability is flawless.

The Lenovo keyboard is too small for my liking, but it's RF signal is great.

Save yourself the frustration and buy something other than this keyboard.

2It looks like a hit or miss, and I missed...Mar 06, 2010
What is the deal about the missed keystrokes and trackball inputs? I give this keyboard 2 stars due to that, it really is frustrating. The thing is, sometimes it works 95% and that's fine I'd take that, but then at times the piece of crap would register less than half of my keystrokes and I'd have to go reset the connection at the usb dongle. It has nothing to do with batteries - I had fresh batteries and at times I got missed keystrokes even bringing the thing within a couple of feet of the usb dongle.

I strongly suspected RF interference had to do with the issue initially. I tried changing my wireless router's RF channel used, but I had no luck in fixing it that way. It seemed to me that when I moved my router further away, things got better, but then I never stopped having these issues.

What I did find out is when things were not working, going to the usb receiver and pressing the reset ID button and doing the same on the keyboard frequently made a significant difference. After a couple of tries, it would go back to registering over 95% of my keystrokes. However, the issue will come back later at some other time or day.

I just read a couple of reviews where it seemed like it could have been the same problem, and they said their replacements worked. Well, I didn't have the time to get a replacement. So, if you don't have the time or patience to deal with returning this thing you purchased online, then at least be prepared that you might get a lemon.

If this keyboard actually worked 100% of the time, my review would be 4 stars, because of its awesome layout. It would get 5 stars if the keyboard had the quality of a good laptop keyboard. The keys don't have good tactile response, so I wouldn't type a several-page paper on it, even if it was registering 100% of the keystrokes. The other annoyance is no numlock LED, and numlock is on by default so you have to press numlock then type your windows password. If your board doesn't register all keystrokes like mine, you'd be lucky to get past login on the first attempt. It takes me three tries on average.

4Great for Home Theater PCMar 02, 2010
It does a very good job in controlling my home theater PC. The wireless receiver is plugged into a USB port in the back of my PC and responds to the keyboard from a range of 2 to 16 feet with no problems. I use it to connect to streaming music and movies on the internet. It's compact and stores nicely in my entertainment center when it's not in use. It is easy to setup -- just press the button on the receiver to get a blinking light then press the ID button on the keyboard to synchronize the system. The keyboard goes to sleep when not in use, so it conserves battery life. The keyboard has a low battery warning light to alert you when it's time to change batteries. I've been using it daily for 30 days with no battery problems yet.

The only problem I had was highlighted in some earlier reviews. When typing, some keys entered numbers when you wanted letters. The software default activates the number lock key. Just, press and hold the Fn key then press the number lock key to change the setting and correct this condition. The system is a bit pricey and the track ball takes a little time to get comfortable navigating with the trackball.

I recommend this product if you need a compact, wireless keyboard and mouse combination to control something like a home theater PC.

2Reception stinks, but everything else is fineFeb 25, 2010
On a fresh set of batteries, this keyboard is barely able to transmit a signal 2 meters, with clear line-of-sight to the antenna. It is pathetic; at this range, one in ten keystrokes just doesn't go through. It doesn't help that it uses the same 2.4 GHz band as the WiFi, so the keyboard stops working any time there's an active download, and the WiFi stops working any time you type.

Physically and ergonomically, it's great. the sides make very good handles, and the trackball and mouse buttons are well-positioned. The built-in trackball is nice when it works (same reception problems, plus it doesn't track fast motion very well). Overall, however, the reception and interference problems make this a poor design.

3Could be betterFeb 22, 2010
The keyboard comes with very little documentation, so you're on your own. Installation is easy; just plug the USB receiver into your computer and install the batteries in the keyboard. Windows XP and Windows 7 automatically detected the keyboard so we don't need additional drivers.

The trackball is cumbersome. It's a bit too sensitive and I needed to adjust the mouse controls in my Control Panel to tame it. The keyboard has mouse buttons on both sides and a roller built in to the left side. Handy. The keyboard is comfortable to handle and fits easily on my lap. Keys are responsive.

The wireless portion is a bit buggy. There are times when the keyboard will stop responding all together. I needed to remove and install the batteries and the USB receiver to get the thing to start working again.
